DAVID BOON APPOINTED CRICKET AUSTRALIA INTERIM CHAIR

Australian cricket great David Boon MBE has been appointed Interim Chair of Cricket Australia (CA) and will officially take up the position following CA’s Annual General Meeting on 28 October 2026.

The appointment follows current Chair Mike Baird AO’s decision not to seek re-appointment and to step down from the Cricket Australia Board after the AGM.

Baird has served on the CA Board for six years and has been Chair since February 2023.
Boon joined the Cricket Australia Board in February 2025 after nine years as a Cricket Tasmania director, including three years as Chair.

The former Australian Test star brings extensive experience both on and off the field. He has previously served as an ICC Match Referee, Cricket Tasmania General Manager of Cricket, and a member of the Australian Selection Panel from 2000 to 2011.

Speaking about his appointment, Boon described taking on the Interim Chair position as an “enormous honour” and said he looked forward to helping make decisions supporting the long-term health and prosperity of Australian cricket.

Outgoing Chair Mike Baird thanked Australian cricket’s fans, volunteers, club players and umpires, while highlighting growth in revenue, attendance, viewership and participation during his tenure.

Cricket Australia will begin a formal process to appoint a permanent Chair in the months following the AGM.
