Opposition Launches Bold Push: JUI-F, TTAP Unite for Feb 8 Protest
The political temperature in Pakistan has risen again as the Opposition Launches Bold Push for a nationwide protest scheduled for February 8. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman formally announced that his party would support the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ain Pakistan’s (TTAP) call for a wheel-jam and shutter-down strike.
Speaking at a joint press conference with TTAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai, he said all opposition parties shared a unified position: the 2024 general elections were rigged from day one.
The Opposition Launches Bold Push now aims to show full coordination among opposition groups, with JUI-F aligning its entire schedule with TTAP’s protest plan. Maulana Fazl said that if any of his party’s rallies were planned for the same day, they would either be cancelled or adjusted to avoid interfering with the strike. According to him, “Our demand is one, our stance is one. Rigging took place on February 8, and we have been sitting in opposition against this rigging from the very first day.”
Unified Opposition Against Election Rigging
This moment marks one of the rare times all major opposition parties have chosen to stand under a single banner. They claim the election results did not reflect the true will of the Pakistani people. He insisted JUI-F had rejected the 2024 results immediately and still demanded fresh elections.

Condemnation of Islamabad Imambargah Attack
During the press conference, both leaders expressed sorrow over the tragic suicide attack in Islamabad. Maulana Fazl called it a failure of those responsible for maintaining peace. He said he had long been warning the state institutions about growing instability, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He urged the authorities to recognise their mistakes and act decisively.
The Opposition Launches Bold Push also carries a moral angle, as leaders emphasised that the political chaos and instability weaken national security and leave common people vulnerable. Fazl said his party wanted a strong and secure Pakistan, but the hardships faced by citizens for decades have yet to be addressed meaningfully.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai said that the opposition’s concerns were clear as early as February 2024. According to him, the people’s mandate was manipulated through force, pressure, courts, and money. He claimed the opinions of 250 million Pakistanis were reshaped against their will, and that those who protested were met with violence and legal cases. Thousands faced FIRs, and many were silenced through amendments such as those in the PECA Act.
Achakzai praised the unity shown in the current movement. The Opposition Launches Bold Push relies heavily on demonstrations, mass mobilisation, and coordinated actions. He said this combined front reflected a growing consensus among political voices — a peaceful democratic protest was the only way forward.
He also addressed the Islamabad blast, condemning all forms of terrorism. He said terrorism was a threat not only to Pakistan but to the entire world. Associating terrorism with Islam was dangerous and misleading. Quoting the Holy Quran, he reminded everyone that killing one innocent human is equal to killing all of humanity.
Achakzai repeated his call for a national roundtable conference including all institutions. He argued that the country could only function properly when the parliament held full authority and all policies were made there. Civilian Supremacy and Institutional Balance
Achakzai also emphasised the sacrifices made by security forces, saying they deserved respect. But he warned that without true civilian supremacy, institutions would become unbalanced, leading to dangerous consequences. His comments reflected a long-standing debate in Pakistan’s political landscape about power distribution and constitutional roles.
When asked whether Maulana Fazl had been taken into confidence about the prime minister’s proposed meeting, Achakzai welcomed the idea. He said there was nothing wrong with the prime minister meeting opposition leaders. “We have to run this country together,” he said. “We will have to accept our mistakes. This country belongs to all of us.”
