Pakistan Reaffirms Strong 2-State Support for Palestine at UN Security Council
At the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan once again placed the Palestinian cause at the center of international attention, calling for a credible and time-bound political process to finally realize Palestinian statehood. During a key open debate on the Palestinian question, Pakistan Reaffirms Strong support for an independent, sovereign, and contiguous State of Palestine as the only viable path toward lasting peace in the Middle East.

Speaking on Wednesday, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, made it clear that the establishment of a Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, remains the core objective shared by the international community.
Palestinian Issue at the Heart of Regional Instability
In his address, Pakistan Reaffirms Strong belief that the unresolved Palestinian question lies at the heart of prolonged instability across the Middle East. Ambassador Ahmad said decades of Israeli occupation have resulted in dispossession, repression, and the denial of Palestinians’ most basic and inalienable rights, including the right to self-determination.
He stressed that peace efforts will continue to fail unless they confront the root causes of the conflict rather than focusing only on short-term crisis management. According to him, international law and relevant UN resolutions must remain the foundation of any political settlement.
Gaza Crisis Reaches Unprecedented Levels
Referring to the continuing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, Pakistan Reaffirms Strong concern over what it described as an unprecedented escalation over the past two years. Ambassador Ahmad highlighted widespread civilian casualties, mass displacement, near-total destruction of infrastructure, and severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.
He warned that humanitarian needs in Gaza are growing at an alarming pace, while access for aid organizations remains restricted. The situation, he said, demands urgent and sustained international action rather than temporary relief measures.
Support for Renewed Diplomatic Efforts
Despite the grim realities on the ground, Pakistan Reaffirms Strong support for renewed diplomatic engagement aimed at achieving a peaceful settlement. Ambassador Ahmad welcomed recent initiatives, including the High-Level Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and President Donald Trump’s Peace Plan, which was endorsed by Security Council resolution 2803.
He noted that while political plans alone cannot resolve the conflict, they can provide a framework if implemented sincerely and in good faith.
Second Phase Must Deliver Real Change
According to Pakistan’s envoy, Pakistan Reaffirms Strong expectations that the second phase of the peace plan must go beyond declarations. He said it should consolidate the ceasefire, ensure a permanent cessation of hostilities, and establish transitional arrangements that allow for recovery and reconstruction in Gaza.
Equally important, he added, is the provision of humanitarian assistance at scale and the preparation of ground for a genuine political process leading to Palestinian self-determination.
Backing the Board of Peace Initiative
Pakistan, along with Arab and Islamic countries in the Group of Eight, has voiced support for the Board of Peace established under resolution 2803. In this context, Pakistan Reaffirms Strong backing for the Board as a transitional mechanism aimed at consolidating the ceasefire, facilitating reconstruction in Gaza, and advancing a just and lasting peace.
Ambassador Ahmad said Pakistan’s participation would be guided by international legitimacy, respect for Palestinian rights, and a clear mandate focused on protection of civilians and reconstruction, not prolonged foreign control.
Concerns Over Ceasefire Violations
At the same time, Pakistan expressed deep concern over ongoing tensions and ceasefire violations. Pakistan Reaffirms Strong alarm that civilian lives remain at constant risk and that pressure on humanitarian organizations continues to obstruct aid delivery and protection efforts.
Condemnation of Attacks on UN Facilities
One of the strongest parts of Pakistan’s statement was its condemnation of Israeli actions against UN facilities. Pakistan Reaffirms Strong condemnation of the recent demolition of a UN compound in Sheikh Jarrah, calling it a serious violation that undermines stabilization efforts.
The ambassador stressed that UN operations, particularly those of UNRWA, are essential for the survival of millions of Palestinians and must be fully protected under international law.
Clear Priorities for Lasting Peace
Outlining Pakistan’s priorities, Pakistan Reaffirms Strong calls for full respect for the ceasefire, immediate recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, and the prevention of annexation or forced displacement of Palestinians.
He urged an end to illegal settlement expansion, settler violence, and attempts to alter the demographic, legal, or historical character of occupied Palestinian territory, including holy sites.
