Warm Reception at Airport Sets the Tone

As Afridi stepped into Karachi, visuals from the airport quickly circulated on social media. Supporters gathered outside the airport in large numbers, chanting slogans and waving party flags. Videos shared on X showed a charged atmosphere, suggesting PTI’s ability to mobilise workers in the country’s largest city remains intact.

Travel Delays Before Departure

Before reaching Karachi, Afridi faced flight delays at Islamabad airport. KP Minister for Local Government Meena Khan Afridi, who is accompanying the chief minister, confirmed the delay in a post on X. Despite the setback, Afridi arrived later in the day, and the Powerful Welcome Sindh Minister reception helped offset the earlier disruption.

Party insiders said the delay did not affect the planned schedule, as most meetings and engagements were set for later hours.

PTI Alleges Removal of Reception Tents

Shortly after Afridi’s arrival, PTI spokesperson Mohammed Ali Bozdar claimed that police had dismantled tents erected outside the party’s Karachi head office near the Nursery area. The tents were reportedly set up for the KP chief minister’s reception.

Bozdar clarified that while tents were removed, the Insaf Secretariat itself was not sealed. Earlier, PTI had alleged on X that Sindh police had sealed the office, a claim later softened by party officials. Despite the controversy, the Powerful Welcome Sindh Minister narrative remained central to PTI’s messaging.

Bozdar added that after discussions with police and Sindh government officials, assurances were given that the tents would be returned. Authorities also confirmed that the party would be allowed to hold gatherings, provided roads were not blocked.

Address to Workers and Leadership

Afridi was expected to address party workers and leaders at the Insaf Secretariat after leaving the airport. According to PTI officials, the gathering aimed to boost morale and reaffirm commitment to what the party describes as a peaceful resistance movement.

The Powerful Welcome Sindh Minister reception was frequently referenced by party leaders as evidence that political engagement across provinces is still possible, even amid disagreements.

Gathering at Mazar-i-Quaid Announced

Before departing Islamabad, Afridi announced on X that he would hold a public gathering at Mazar-i-Quaid on Sunday at 4:30pm. He said the visit was intended to deliver Imran Khan’s message to the people of Sindh and to encourage participation in the street movement.

A notification from the Korangi deputy commissioner’s office asked PTI to propose an alternative venue.

However, the decision was later reversed. Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah announced that the rally would be allowed, stating that peaceful political struggle could not be stopped.

Party leaders welcomed the statement, interpreting it as recognition of PTI’s right to peaceful assembly. Once again, supporters highlighted the Powerful Welcome Sindh Minister reception as a positive signal for political dialogue.

Afridi’s Three-Day Agenda in Sindh

During his stay, Afridi is scheduled to meet PTI leadership, lawyers, and business representatives. He will also hold discussions with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, a meeting expected to draw attention given the prevailing political climate.

According to PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh, Afridi’s engagements include meetings at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, a press interaction at the Karachi Press Club, and visits across South, Korangi, and Malir districts.

The visit is also aimed at meeting incarcerated PTI workers, which the party describes as a core element of its resistance narrative. These activities are designed to maintain momentum generated by the Powerful Welcome Sindh Minister moment at the airport.

Hyderabad Visit Next

The political momentum will continue on January 10, when Afridi travels to Hyderabad to meet party workers and local leaders. PTI hopes the Sindh tour will strengthen organisational structure and revive grassroots mobilisation ahead of future political developments.

Observers believe the visit carries both symbolic and strategic weight. The Powerful Welcome Sindh Minister reception has already been widely circulated on social media, helping PTI frame the tour as a show of unity, resilience, and political relevance.
