Opposition Fierce Sit-In Hits Day 3 Despite Govt Shift of Imran Khan

Opposition Fierce Sit-In Intensifies as PTI Demands Transfer of Imran Khan to Al-Shifa Hospital

The political temperature in Islamabad rose sharply this week as an Opposition Fierce sit-in entered its third straight day. Lawmakers from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aiyeen Pakistan (TTAP) alliance vowed that their protest would continue until former prime minister Imran Khan is shifted to Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital for proper medical treatment.

The government has already announced that Imran will be moved to a medical facility, but the Opposition Fierce protestors say this can only happen with approval from his family and legal team.

The standoff deepened after the government’s decision to move Imran—who has reportedly lost 85% of his vision in his right eye—to a hospital. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry posted on X that, considering the seriousness of the condition, a medical board would be formed and the transfer would proceed soon. But the Opposition Fierce protestors insisted that the government must not make unilateral medical decisions about their party founder.

Last month, he underwent a procedure at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, where senior specialists monitored his treatment. According to a medical report submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Imran now retains only 15% vision in his right eye.

Despite this, a special medical team—featuring Dr Amjad and Prof. Dr Nadeem Qureshi—could not reach Adiala Jail over the weekend to examine him. This delay added fuel to the Opposition Fierce protest outside Parliament, where leaders demanded immediate medical intervention.

Opposition Leaders Rally Behind Imran Khan

The sit-in is being held at multiple locations, including the Parliament House, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, and the Parliament Lodges, with several prominent leaders in attendance. Among them are National Assembly Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, and former KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

All of them have described Imran’s condition as urgent and sensitive. The Opposition Fierce demonstrators argue that the government’s slow handling of the medical panel and its reluctance to involve Imran’s family is unacceptable and violates his basic rights.

Achakzai, speaking to reporters, said any medical decision involving Imran must be transparent and taken in consultation with his family and personal doctors. He stressed that the Opposition Fierce movement will not back down until due process is followed.

Government Calls the Move a Positive Step, Opposition Calls It Incomplete

Ali Amin Gandapur told journalists outside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House that shifting Imran to a hospital was one of the core demands of their Opposition Fierce protest. He called the government’s announcement “a positive step” but added that it is only meaningful if carried out responsibly. According to him, the decision on whether the sit-in ends rests solely with people authorized by Imran Khan.

He warned that if the government delays the transfer further, the Opposition Fierce protest will expand to other cities. PTI’s spokesperson echoed that sentiment, saying any move without consulting Imran’s family would be deemed illegitimate.

Medical Complications Add Pressure on the Government

The situation intensified when the medical board failed to reach Adiala Jail. Sources confirmed that the board was scheduled to examine Imran’s eye condition but logistical issues prevented the visit. Officials insist that once the medical report is finalized, a decision about shifting him to a hospital—including Al-Shifa Hospital, the opposition’s preferred choice—will be taken in accordance with the medical recommendations.

The Opposition Fierce stance is that delays are unnecessary and potentially harmful. Their leaders argue that Imran’s rare condition, CRVO, requires urgent and specialized treatments that cannot be provided in jail. A recent medical report states that despite receiving an injection to prevent further deterioration, Imran’s vision remains severely impaired.

A Protest That Shows No Signs of Slowing Down

The Opposition Fierce movement has gained momentum as more lawmakers join the sit-in each day. Protestors say the government’s actions are too slow and lack transparency. They accuse authorities of withholding proper medical care as a form of political pressure, a claim the government denies.

But as long as Imran remains behind bars and his health condition appears to worsen, the Opposition Fierce sit-in seems unlikely to end anytime soon.

The PTI spokesperson reinforced the demands by stating that the sit-in will continue “until the PTI founder is transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital.” With emotions running high and both sides refusing to bend, Islamabad remains at the center of political turbulence.
